RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Re:SD-1 Sequencer

2004-07-30 by john brusseau

I have a VFXsd, and a TS10. They both have much the same sequencer as a SD1. I totally rely on the sequencer to build songs. I cannot play any instruments, so the sequencer has become my instrument. I say this to say the sequencer is really very usefull. I start a sequence (on track 1) recording four bars of some kind of boom/chuck rythem. Play the boom/chuck in time with the click track as well as you are able otherwise quantization will be useless later.(a boom/chuck is the most basic pattern of sound in any song). Press the edit sound button, then the quantize button. 1/4, or 1/8 usually work with this track (unless you started with a tempo that was too fast; start with a tempo of 120. You can always speed up, or slow it down later). Next, press the edit sequence button, then press the append button. You now have eight bars. I usually record a bass track on track six at this point becauseI can create a nice repeating bass pattern in eight bars. You can append these eight bars, and now you have sixteen bars (sixteen bars is a very good length for an average song verse. Now,record more drums onto tracks two, and three, and maybe four. Sequence these. Then Add whatever else you like. I have used this basic method (you will find it easy to creatively modify forvarious songs)to create some very complex tunes. I hope this serves your needs.
