Unlike the VFX, VFX-SD, and SD1 which were backward compatible with earlier versions, the TS series is a completely different instrument. The Wave samples are different (many waves from the VFX/SD family are removed), the synthesis engine is different, the user interface is different, and the Sysex implementation is different. Many of the unique features that set the VFX/SD1 family apart were removed from the TS, making it more of a "generic" PCM synthesizer, IMO. The effort required to move sounds and sequences from an SD1 to a TS12 would be the same as moving from an SD1 to a Korg or Kurzweil. Basically, you would have to play out the SD1 sequences to a computer program as multi-channel MIDI. Then you would have to re-create the sounds as best as possible on the new synthesizer. Then you would have to re-record the sequences from the computer into the synthesizer's sequencer.
