Greetings Sam,
I have posted a 'jpg' file in the group's
"FILES" section with the SD-1 spec information. The "FILES" section is available
through the Menu listed on the left-hand side of the group Home Page if you are
not familiar with its locations.

The Sequencer Operating System initially loads
from a floppy and resides on the hard-disk. Once the Sequencer OS is installed
from the floppy you no longer need the disk unless, of course, the unit were to
crash for some reason. Then it would have to be reloaded. Not familiar with the
samplers so I can't give you a comparison.
Hope this goes a way in answering some of your
questions about the units capabilities.

I've found an SD-1 in pretty good shape, but I'm curious about a couple
of MIDI specs. I don't want to buy the manual yet just to find this out
(I guess that could be bought from Syntaur ...I can't find a pdf of it
on the web)
1. I vaguely remember that it's poly aftertouch as well as channel, yes?
2. Does it transmit Velocity Off messages (like my EPS 16+)?
3. Can it transmit in Poly Mode? How many at once (for example, my EPS
16+ can do 8)?
4. Does the board need a floppy to boot, like the Ensoniq samplers, or
does the sequencer just need to boot from floppy?
Thanks for any help,
Sam
