Hi, Scott
My VFX SD had a similar failure some time ago. After power on, the display showed just some characters and very low lighted.
I opened the cover and found that one fuse was burnt. I could never find the reason for the fuse to burn, but after replacing it the VFX returned to normality.
Check then the fuses (there are more than one) and if necessary, be sure to install one with the same amperage.
Hope you can fix it so easily.
Alfons

Finally Concked Out
My SD-1 has worked flawlessly since 1991 and toady it
won't start.
Power on and the drive chirps twice and that's it. If I hit enough
buttons I can get "8"s on the screen. So, the question --- would a
dead battery alone cause this or is this a sympton of something bigger?
