Covering the hole is not a safe solution. Although
it apperas to work sometimes you can easily loose your data over
time.
There's enough information in the groups archive about
the technical reasons for this, if you're interested.
For a
simple transfer you can be lucky. If you use this trick for archiving
don't complain when your data are gone.
