I've encountered the VFXlib problem even in pre XP times and the same can happen with Soundlib when sending patches. As far as I remember it's a timing problem, i.e. if your PC is sending too fast the VFY can't keep up and produces this error message. Both VFXlib and Soundlib have been developed at times with much slower processing capabilities. With the modern fast processors you've got to throttle the output sent to the VFX. Other than midi sequences sysex files are sent a buffer full at a time. If the receiving device can't process and empty the receive buffer before the next bulk of data is sent there will be a problem... There's a workaround worth trying: Get MIDI-OX and the MIDI Yoke driver to loop your MIDI signal through. In MIDI-OX you can configure buffer sizes which might already help. To try out settings use the Sysex window to send a patch file to your SD. There you can even adjust a wait time between sending buffers. Maybe you've to play around a bit but you'll at least be able to download patches to your VFX or SD. The other Soundlib problem with the access violation could be caused by an installation gone bad. Reinstall soundlib and make sure not to choose an installation path with names Soundlib can't easily cope with. Make a directory C:\Soundlib and install Soundlib there. This worked for me. Hans I tried VFXlib but didn't have any luck getting the VFX SD1 to work at all with it. I then tried Soundlib and was able to pull the sounds off the VFX but can't export any of the patch to the VDXSD1 I Get .... midi sys-ex recieve error on the VFX and Soundlib caused an access violation in winmm.dll at ox76b51571 on the computer. I did download the patches into soundlib...so I know the Midi connection is working ok Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks John
