thanks a bunch for the feedback.  i had been so focused on the 
mainboard and battery that i, king knuclehead, forgot to check the 
FUSES!! i have a blown 1.5v 250 amp fuse blown.  i will replace that 
and see what i get, and if i need to i will pursue your suggestion.
