You're right, but sys-ex is probably the best way to handle things if
he's going to change the contents of the multi between songs.  For
instance, it will propperly restore any effect settings for the multi.

The manual agrees; On page 11-3, in the "MULTI-A+B" "Sending the Multi
A & B track setup out via MIDI Sys-Ex" section, it says, "This is the
best way to save and restore a VFX setup used for multi-timbral
sequencing."

If you've got a vanilla VFX, and it's already a given that its
connected to a computer, you really want to learn how to use SysEx in
general anyway; it's the only way to get at the patch sets on the
internet.

However, for just getting it to work the first time, I conceed there's
no need to dive into SysEx right away.
