I bought a s/h VFX off Ebay, it worked perfectly for just 3 days then crashed during the calibration routine. I searched everywhere on the web for a fix, and even had 2 responses from repairers saying to just scrap it as it wasn't worth fixing. I tried all this power on/off 7 times stuff to no avail. Anyhow, I FIXED IT MYSELF - I opened the top lid, removed the upper and lower IC chips (the ones with the stickers on) carefully put them back, unplugged the main white batch of power cables to the left near the transformer, blew on them, plugged them back in, and hey presto it is working perfectly. I have either just reconnected a loose power cable, or I have drained the power out of the RAM chips which was maybe causing the problem, but either way, I thought I would share this with people in case it ever happens to them. I think the VFX is a great synth. I got it because I'm a big fan of Richard Barbieri (Japan, Rain Tree Crow, David Sylvian, Porcupine Tree). Cheers, David (Durham, England, UK)
