Patches and discussion for Ensoniq VFX family

Hi Stan,

I wish I were more up to speed on the issue. Really wanna know my method of getting my tunes on the computer? Once I have everything MIDI'd, sequenced, routed and mixed I send an audio path to my Oasys and lay the whole thing down as a stereo mix track. THEN, if I want/need to I can add more audio or MIDI tracks to the existing stuff. As my CD is approaching release I have found it necessary to replace some of the old instruments (i.e., the piano) that I used and loved (still love) on the SD-1 so that the tracks don't sound "dated." I reluctantly replaced the oboe (who here thought the oboe on the SD-1 was/is one of the best ever on a synth? I do!) on the SD-1 with one that was just too sweet to pass up on the Motif XS. I hated doing it but I really want my stuff to sound as real and hi-fidelity as I can get it. I still use the strings and brass as well as bass pretty extensively on the Ensoniq. My TS12 and ZR are sitting in a closet waiting for me to
 make riim in the studio. I remember when the TS10 and 12 first came out and the oboe was actually an improvement over the SD-1. I couldn't believe it!! Anyway, when I listen to it now I favor the SD's WAY over the TS. It must have been a sampled oboe sitting in the RAM of the TS that I heard...cuz it sounded better than what I am hearing on the TS now. (Yes, my memory is THAT good...lol.)

Okay, I am rambling now. I need to get some stuff done! Hehehe.

Hey David,
You are so totally right on! I bought my Ensoniq about 91 or 92 and am still using it in live performance.  After getting past all the normal issues I found it to be so easy to sequence with. I've purchased two other keyboard sequencers and have never been able to sequence adequately.  I'm looking for a way to convert my Ensoniq  (.efv) files to standard midi to get them on my computer and to MP3's.  Any ideas?

Today, there are just so many more options. The MPC's are beasts! Personally, I used a Roland MC500 MKII (before I had my 1st EPS) with 2 separate banks of 16 tracks. Man I loved that thing. Also, if Fabio is more into grooves or push and play creations
 (with a bunch-o preset 'helper tracks'...or whatever, he prolly would never take to the Ensoniq sequencers.
