Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] VFX-SD cartridge failure

2012-05-02 by jammie

yes that is one way it could not find it if its in backwards

its easy circuit to make new carts its the casing thats the problem unless you can go to a local plastic injection moulding company that can clone the case its not very hard to make switching section of a rom cart with an fpga and a cfcard

or sd cards

  Hi1

  My first post...bought a used VFX-SD...(one of the later ones as the
  connection between the under-keyboard circuit boards is a 2-layer socket)everything works perfectly...however I had ordered a NOS Voice Crystal cartridge from a store in Florida, the case for the cartridge arrived broken,

  ==================================================
  Long shot here:
  1) is the cartridge broken so badly the it will fit in the socket backwards? There's no index on the contacts, just the diference in the thickness of the sides of the cartridge that makes it fit one way.
  2)The copper traces on the PC board in the cartridge are very small. If the board is cracked at all, that might do it.
  3) Just finished fixing an Ensoniq SQ80 (ancestor of the VFX) Someone had removed the cartridge socket from the slot in the case and had put it back UPSIDE DOWN. Same synptoms: synth worked and sounded finem but did not recognize the cartridge.
