Help with midi set up

Is anybody actively checking in on this site? I have a problem trying to get my SD-1 to communicate with Cakewalk Express Gold which was bundled with my Sound Blaster Live (basic) audio card. Yeah, yeah, I know, cheesy set up but it's all I can afford right now! I'm connected to my PC through the cards midi port via a in out midi cable. Windows 98 is my OS. I cannot figure out how to get the two of them together. I'm not sure I'm understanding how Windows 98 does things as the last time I had a midi set up, I was using Windows 3.1. I would appreciate suggestions from anyone. Thanks. Mark
