SD-1 sequencer software

SD-1 sequencer software

2005-01-02 by Jay Barnes

Reg Took your advise. Here's the new post.

My sequencer went down on my SD-1 32 voice. The read out
says "Sequencer Must Be Loaded."

It takes floppies to load programs. Of course the only floppy I
don't have is the sequencer sofware.

Anyone have any idea if there is a download somewhere to
reload the sequencer?

I really hate that I lost my sequences that I worked so hard on.
(Back up Back up Back up!)

Thanks.

Jay

Jay,
Hans has forwarded you information for your sequencer operation. Hopefully that will help you out.
In addition to his help, my SD-1 sequencer operating system is Version 4.10 and requires ROM operating system 4.0 or higher. If worse comes to worse, I would be happy to mail you a copy of my O. S. disk. Let me know and I will email you at your personal email address and get your address.

Alan,
I appreciate that. In looking at that site I'm not
seeing anything sequencer specific. Should I assume
that the sequencer program is contained in the 4.10
disc? If that's the case it would appear that the
disc I have isn't any good. Floppies do tend to go
bad. When I load the 4.10 disk and do the load
command it does nothing. I bought my SD1 used a
couple of years ago and there's no telling how old the
disks are or how they were stored by the, at least 2
previous owners. I can't stand not having my keyboard
operating. I do all my drums on it as a group of
sequences as well as piano and organ.

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] SD-1 sequencer software

2005-01-02 by Alan Ginocchio

Hans will be able to explain the situation with downloading those files from "emu.com" far, far better than I can. I have never used those files provided by that website so I am not an expert but I think you must first install the Giebler EDE software Hans referred to which actually converts the downloaded 4.10 operating system you are referring to into something the SD1 can read. Also, if you are not aware, the SD1 disk drive reads only "Double-Density" floppies and will not read the standard type floppy you use in your desktop computer. So if you have downloaded the Version 4.10 file from the site referred to by Hans and then tried to use that disk in the SD1 - the SD1 will indeed just sit there staring back at you.
But again, I am aware of the procedure Hans has mentioned and referred you to but know little or nothing about the specifics since I have personally never used it. Sorry.......

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] SD-1 sequencer software

2005-01-02 by Jay Barnes

All in all,,,,rather confusing. Reminds me of a
school I went to called Basic Data Recovery. I left
there drooling due to brain shut down. Actually the
disk I was referring to was one I got with the SD1 but
I haven't checked it to see if it's a double sided or
not. It doesn't appear to be the original. I'll
check it out. I can see right now that I'm not going
to have my beloved keyboard up and running in the next
couple days. At least the other funtion's working and
I can still at least play it even if I can't do my
sequences. Thanks.

when my SD-1's floppy disk drive packed it in, all I
got was the "Sequencer must be loaded" message, even
though the floppy drive still loaded patches. I
suspect a replacemnet disk drive will fix your
problem. Cheers, Keith

Bummer. I hope it's not that. The disks are cheaper.
 hahaha
I'm hoping for the best but I'll keep this in mind
also. Thanks.

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] SD-1 sequencer software

2005-01-03 by hans-artmann@t-online.de

Alan's right. You should use a DD (double density) floppy. And you MUST use ede109.exe to store the OS 4.10. There is NO WAY just to copy the downloaded file to a floppy!
;
The floppy's not necessarily the issue. You could try to cheat with a 1,4M (HD) floppy with the hole on the bottom left corner covered (the right hole is the write protection). It's not a safe way to store VFX data and althogh you can be lucky it's better to get hold of DD floppies
It's more important to use EDE in a proper DOS environment as explained in the message I already referred to. The reason is that Ensoniq used a non standard floppy format with 80 tracks and Windows is not able to handle this! The bad thing is: EDE would not complain in most cases but your VFX will just keep staring back at you...
I guess this is why so many VFX friends
Unfortunately there is no program for the Mac. EMU let you choose Mac as a platform only to offer you the same DOS program - bloody morons.
If you don't feel comfortable with this low level PC stuff let me know. There are more ways to solve the problem.

I think I can come up with a DD floppy or two. I'll
study the issue and see what happens and if things
confuse me beyond reason I'll ask some, hopefully,
intelligent questions.
Thanks guys.
