Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Digest Number 777

Hello all,
I just wanted to provide an update on getting the
other VFX-SD that I bought from a private party. It
works great and I am very excited about looking at my
old sequences again from over 15 years ago. I also
ordered another floppy drive from Route66Studios.com
for my other VFX-SD, so I can have that one fixed as
well.
Is there a way to transfer the Sequencer OS itself
via Sysex or via Cartridge, or is that something that
is specifically loaded from floppy disk only? The
original VFX I have does not have it loaded and is the
unit with the bad floppy drive. I have been having
them talk to each other via sysex (transferring sounds
for gig setups), but cannot specifically load the
sequencer itself in my initial attemps.
I am very pleased thus far and am actually looking
for an
SQ-1-Plus so I can take my SQ-2 sounds to gigs. I
guess you can call me an Ensoniqaholic.
Well that is all for now. Happy music creation :)

RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Digest Number 777 (loading VFX-SD Operating System via Syex)

2006-03-12 by Alfons Martinez

Hello, Harry:

I'm afraid it's not possible to load the OS via sysex into the VFX-SD, at
least in a direct way. I saw your question some days ago, and I've been
trying to do it in all the possible ways with no success. In fact you cannot
even save it to a floppy, you must make a diskcopy (or use the Giebler
program, but I'm not able to make it work).

If someone knowing "midi secrets" know how to extract the OS from the VFX to
an sysex file, I will be pleased to do it and send it to you (I have v2.10
and v2.00).
Anyways, if it is possible, I would also keep a sysex copy for me: I'm
always afraid of loosing the OS if the floppies don't work anymore, so I
have 4 or 5 backup disks. But what happens if the diskdrive breaks...?

I join you: Help please !

2006-03-12 by tim

any ideas to toss around , on the easiest way to make tap tempo work from a footpedal
with vfx

im trying to create snippets of sequencer stuff as fill in
im a guitarist and i trigger sequences in beginnings or middle of tunes
and i do not want to feed the drummer a click track
these sequenses last only a few moments usually
but i need them to be in the timing of what were playing

Bob S. and swomp_rabbit: thanks for the compliments. I really enjoyed
making the album and I'm glad you guys enjoyed what you've heard so far
(it's on ITunes too if you'd prefer to just pick up a track or so).

I'm a horrid Luddite when it comes to computers and music; I never got
comfortable enough with external sequencing that I switched, which is
particularly funny since I program computers for a living. Maybe I
subconsciously don't trust 'em enough to let them near my music... :)
