MIDI connectivity issue

MIDI connectivity issue

2006-07-09 by justin_s_pope

I can send my banks out to SoundLib and/or VFXLib Ok, but when I go to
export banks from either program, I get a "MIDI SysEx Receive Error"
message on the VFX. How should I have the MIDI settings set to
correct this problem?

the answer is to send sys-ex to the VFX s-l-o-w-l-y. Some of the older
midi librarians had a transmit rate setting, and for the VFX this needed
to be set at the lowest. Having done that - everything works fine.

try that

Thanks! I actually managed to get it all worked out that way. Now, I
can fill the banks to my heart's content with all sorts of amazing
sounds, and if I can figure that battery replacement out, I can
actually save them to the system! :-)

What Sequencer OS are You using in the VFX?

The standard BAUD rate for MIDI is 31250 bits per second, at which
setting the VFX will work fine :) True - If You 'shoot' at the VFX it's
going to cry :)

It's a long time ago I used those librians, so I forgot that setting :S
I bought a Evolution UC-33e and are setting it up for the VFX-SD! So if
anyone in here have that (brilliant, cheap) controller I might Upload
the Map when I'm done. Anyone? :)

I think I got to correct that: Baud rate on the (serial) midi connection is always 31250. This cannot be changed. What can be fixed is the size of chunks being sent (usually referred to as buffer size) and the delay between them. While programs like VFXLIB and Soundlib unfortunately cannot adjust these settings simple midi dump programs like MIDIOX can do (and send and receive the sysex files created with VFXLIB and Soundlib).
Well, that's only to appear as a know-it-all. The problem was solved anyway ;-)

Re: MIDI connectivity issue

In response to Claus, I don't have a VFX-SD, so I don't believe I have a
sequencer to have an OS of. It's just a plain ol' VFX, which is fine,
because I've got enough trouble understanding this one!! :-) In response
to Hans, thanks for the info. I got FreeLoad, and I think it tested my buffer
size for me, although I'm not positive. In any case, WHY it works now isn't
as important as THAT it does. I actually think I just forgot to reset the
SYSEX: ON/OFF every time I restarted the unit.

Still need help with that battery, though... where are these great
technicians that you all seem to find to help you with your boards?

Hi Justin!

On the VFX connect the PLUS side of the battery to resistor marked R6.

Happy soldering :)
