Ensoniq Synths Alive and Kicking Ass

Hi all, I've just joined and I am so glad to see that I am not alone in the Universe and that there are still so many Ensoniq Synths still going strong. I live in Scotland and in 25 years of gigging have only ever encountered one other Ensoniq synth (an SQ1). I've had a second hand ESQ1 from the 80's and bought a new SD1(32) in the 90's. ESQ1: I had looked at various synths but at the time this was the only one in my price range that did things the way I expected - splittable KB, layerable, readable patch names. I've had to nurse it back to health through various ailments from popped keys, blown bridge rectifiers, not reading cartridges correctly and keyboard areas that refused to work. Glad to say that it's currently going great although I've now retired it. SD1: Ensoniq seemed to be able to read my mind and this was exactly the beast I was waiting on so the first chance I got I bought one. Other than the 'expected' quirkiness of Ensoniq's, I've never had any major problems with this synth. Like the rest of the family it's a bit noisy during the decay stage of the envelope, if anything is left selected by the slider it randomly goes to it's highest setting - tempo, tuning, etc., I get the occassional "memory full" error while recording even though I have only used a fraction of that available. However, all of that aside , I love Ensoniq synths. I wish I could buy a car for £2000 which would serve me as well for so long. Cheers, John
