Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Internal extra soundmemory? ?

Hi Richard.

That sounds cool!!

Personally, I'd prefer two standard VFX-buttons placed near the actual cartridge slot, since there would be space behind the panel. (I know cutting square holes isn't as easy as drilling round ones.... ;) ) To show the bank selected I could imagine a 7 segment LED, which would show upto 10 Banks..

Is the cartridge slot the same on all VFXes btw?

Yes actually I started this about two years ago and still have it sitting on my work bench, only thing I couldn't decide was how to go about switching from bank to bank.

Do I add a small switch that would end up having to pass through the top or back of the VFX/VXFSD/SD1? and how many people would want to deface their unit and cut a hole init? I set this up on my bench unit and was able to select 6 additional banks plus the internals and still use the cart as well, it works I just have a few cosmetic details to work out...any thoughts?

Is there a chance that somebody somewhere have made an internally
fitted cartridge board? I mean, instead of changing cartridges all the
time, have anybody made an internal card-board with say 4 switchable
cartridges for direct access to 256 sounds at once (or the like), as
was done on Yamhas DX7 by I-can't-remember-who? It looks like it would
be possible somehow (looking at the schematics anyway). And talking
schematics: Is it possible getting/bying a schematic specifically for
the 21 Voice board, or is the cartridge connector the same as on the
VFX schematic?

Hope this makes sence :)

Yes all the carts/slots are the same, I agree the square buttons would be a better looking fit for the unit just have to have a way for the everyday joe to make them.

I do have a new item/items coming for the the VFX,VFXSD,SD1, It's a backlit set of clear mod wheels just like the new Moogs. I will have them available with blue, green or red backlighting and a custom set of chrome (plastic chrome) one's as well.
We just started a vacuume metalized service so we can do almost any plastic part.

I have my SD1 set up with chrome buttons and chrome mod wheels, I?will have some pics posted on the web site in a few weeks.

Re: Internal extra soundmemory??

I just figured out a simple and easy way to do this and you wont have
to even cut a hole for a button. I am thinking of using the already
existing patch select buttons to change the bank, I know of a way to
make these buttons serve as dual purpose.
So you still have the patch select and when you want to change banks
it becomes just two button presses. LED thing is a great idea and I
could add this to the circuit board real easy and maybe place it next
to the patch select buttons. In this case you would only have to
drill a few small holes.

Re: Internal extra soundmemory??

2007-09-16 by tedstruk

Here we are again...
simplicity vs laziness

Is it simpler to flip a switch or flip your lid? I would say flipping
your switch is much simpler. I think your idea is in the right
direction but in the wrong context... I have only just learned about
the filters on my SD-1 and the buttons that had followed me that deep
into the manual were mind twisting....

I have always hoped that a manufacturer(ensoniq indeed) would remain
stable enough to support their products with the acessories that they
use regularily ahem such as writable carts and proper disks(for which
I am still wondering what the difference between a HD and a DD floppy
is)

Here is your solution, build a cart buss.. with a multi position
switch for each cart. plug the buss into the cart plug and load each
cart when needed.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
