Re: It Is Actually Happening!

Hi Folks

I post here sometimes, and (hopefully) I have been of some use over the
years with little tips and tricks I have picked up along the way.

However - (and yes, here comes my two cents worth...)

Although this group is specific to our beloved Ensoniq toys, it is
really about music. Yes most, if not all of us, create some form of
music. I have linked to my website in a posting so anyone that was
interested could listen to my little opus's that I used my SD-1 on - so
I have sinned as well!!

Bottom line is, it's about the music. But what is the point of making
music if no-one ever hears it?

So some-one used this forum to invite others to listen to their
music.... Isn't music for sharing???? Oh please, lets all just cool
down and look at how silly we can get, and how obscured the view can get
when one is on a high horse. And God forbid that some-one may actually
attempt to PROFIT from their music !! Gasp!! Well SOMEONE has too, 99%
of us don't, so three cheers to some-one that can!!

on that topic........

Hear about the Irish musician? He got into it for the money. (boom-boom).

How do you end up with a million bucks in the music business? Start
with two million. (boom-boom).

Smile. Nobody's been hurt here.

"all you need is love"

Indeed... having programmed synths since the later 70's I have always
found that the Japanese think differently than Americans in the way they
design user interfaces. In my opinion, the Ensoniq products were the
most user-intuitive/friendly synths... in both programmability and
performance. They had all the bells and whistles for programming the
very subtle articulation required for achieving realistic sounding
instruments. For example, they provided pitch modulation above zero (for
fret-based guitar vibrato), a simple example. You just won't find that
on many synths or soundcards. I designed the synth architecture for
several General MIDI chipsets for sound cards over the years, and always
based the parameter list requirements on what synths like the VFX provided.
What is very very unfortunate is that Creative Labs, a foreign
company decided to buy up both the major American companies - Emu and
Ensoniq. Then, they turned Ensoniq into a sweatshop for PC soundcards...
and we lost a company that really knew what they were doing. They also
bullied their way into forcing the SoundFont and DLS standard to be what
they are today. It really lacks much in providing the parameters
required to program more true-to-life instruments. And, everytime I go
over to my Roland Fantom to write something, it takes me 20 minutes of
re-reading the manual just to put down a few tracks. It's just not right!
   Just a slight rant. :)
   Enjoy!

Move to quarantaine
