VFX-SD question

VFX-SD question

2008-03-10 by David Gilewski

My VFX-SD is frequently experiencing temp changes from sequence to sequence during playback in song mode. I have reloaded the Sequencer, and done one reset and it keeps occurring. I recently bought a new battery but have not installed it. Any suggestions?

RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] VFX-SD question

2008-03-10 by Alfons Martinez

Hello Dave:

Some similar happened to me but I suppose for a different reason: the
data/timbre slider of my VFX-SD is almost unusable as it changes the values
randomly. I know it is the contact surface, but I don't know how to repair
it.

The fact is that I usually selected the "tempo" parameter in the "song/seq
control" page, and the tempo value was changing randomly. To avoid this, now
I usually select another parameter whose random change has no effect
(autopunch, for instance). It's a poor solution but at least the tempo
doesn't change.

Good luck

Alfons

Thanks,

So when I create a sequence, I select the tempoas always in the Seq/Song info page. Then during playback, Isimplyselectanother parameter (autopunch not tempo) that is controlled by the fader. I got it. So simple I guess I overlooked it and will try it.

Thanks alot

Dave

I agree, most probably data/timbre slider. Happened to me on one SD1.
Selecting a parameter that doesn't really effect playback or the sound
is an ok temporary solution.

I opened my SD1 up, removed the display board & brought the display to
a qualified repair guy. Probably any good instrument repair shop can
replace the slider pot, they weren't made special for Ensoniq. Taking
just the display board in saved me some $.

Thanks, I will try the Deoxit on the fader to clean it up.
The other suggestion of using another playback parameter like
autopunch, does not allow me to look at the sequence info as it is
playing, which I am used to following for changes during the song.Any
suggestions on how to view song steps/ seq info during song mode and
have not have the tempo button active?

Noooo... get the Fader cleaner and then the lube or grease to make it
smooth after the cleaning as they are when they first come out of the
factory. If you use DeoxIt on the faders it will likely just *short*
them out, because it is designed to be brushed on to things like noisy
audio cable connectors for better conductivity!
But, call Caig and get their expert advice/recommendation for your
particular scenerio... I'm just pointing a direction. :)

I have the same problem occasionally with tuning not being accurate, I think due to the pitchbend wheel pot being worn/ dirty. havent tackled it yet, I just give the wheel a workout and it fixes for a while.
