Hi Bob!
EDE109 is the DOS program to create the Floppy Disc with. The Sequencer is the different files named 2.x, 3.0, 4.1 in the ZIP file. The Worddoc (also in the ZIP-file) explains How to do it. I'd recommend doing it on an old Win98 PC, since EDE won't work right with XPs DOS-mode disks. Also an old DOS 6.22 bootdisk, or bootdisk created with Win98 will work. There should be space for both EDE109 and the OS image.
But You were saying You have 4.2. In the ZIP it's 4.1 so I'm not sure it'll work with the SD, but there is no harm done trying it out. The worst case will be the SD saying wrong OS-disc.
Hope You get the baby up and running :)

Subject: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Had VFX & now an SD-1......question on differences I hear & feel....
Thank You Claus for all your responses !!
The SD-1 I bought did not look so good in the photos but a little cleaning and tape removal made it look as good as any keyboard that is over 15 years old.....and it sounds good.....(I am still sorry I sold my Fizmo last year but needed cash and I still have over 20 hardware synths....)
I am going to guess the keyboard mechanism is a little different for the VFX and the SD-1....since the feel is different and the polyAT sensitivity seems different. Later this year I'll open the keyboard part of the SD-1 and see if there is anything I can do to improve sensitivity. On my Yamaha AN1x, there was a sensitivity gain and offset pot on the keyboard circuit card that let me adjust the AT make the it more sensitive.
I found a zip of EDE109....is that the sequencer?
Thanks

That was CHEEEEEEEAP :O Lucky You!!
As I remember, the VFX-series uses the Phillips 1541 converter. The SD's the 1542 (less noisy), a little more distortion (inaudioble btw.)
The SD's probably run on the same ~39 KHz sampling rate, allthough it might have been 44.1. Not 100% sure about that.

I just received the SD-1/32 I scored on Ebay for $132....didn't
realize it was a 32 until after I won when I noticed a red bar in the
photo under the SD-1 logo. And it works! Here are some differences
between this SD-1/32 and the VFX I have had for a few years.....
- Key action is a lot looser on the SD-1 than the VFX....actually, non
of my keyboards feel as soft as the SD-1. Not a bad soft....just low
key spring pressure than other keyboards.
- Aftertouch is definitely not as sensitive as my VFX....I tried with
a few patches I had designed with noticeable aftertouch and they just
don't seem to be affected as much with aftertouch on the SD-1
- Have no clue what OS version the SD-1 is at...can the OS be loaded
via floppy instead of PROM like the VFX? What is the latest OS and
what keystrokes to see?
- It is DEFINITELY much quieter, hiss wise, than the VFX was. I also
sounds a bit cleaner....maybe too clean and I might have to adjust
some of my presets like the overdrive organ.....
- Can decide if I will sell the VFX yet.....
