sd1 and effects...

sd1 and effects...

2009-07-15 by somethingkillingyou

I think (well, I'm pretty sure...) that my SD1 has an issue...

when I switch it on and play it, presets sounds are 'dry', effects are not working...
then I select the patch (or another patch) again and the fx processors start to work...

is it a common issue? what's wrong with my SD1?

sometimes effects disappear after a while and I have to recall the preset... but that doesn't happen every single time, only once in a while, and only in the very firsts minutes after it is switched on...

luckily I don't do gigs, so it's note a really big problem, anyway it is annoying...

also, the sd1 gets warm near the psu after a while it is working...

I only turn off my SD-1 when it is being moved and have had no issues since 1991, when I bought it. You might insure that you're connection to ground/earth is not faulty. Grounding problems can sometimes scramble the I.C.s.

I think its normal for most PSU to give off heat.

Cleaning and reseating the socketed ICs helped my effects to return after a short absence about 10 years ago. Worked ever since.

!But remember to be CAREFULL when doing it!

Best,
Claus

"!But remember to be CAREFULL when doing it!"

ReallyTrue!!!!

There are tools available to pull ICs without distorting the pin alighnment. Make sure to not introduce static electricity to the IC!.

I've seen this too. It can be annoying, but I don't think anything can be done about it. I don't think your SD1 is dying; mine's been doing it for years.
