RE: Good stories

RE: Good stories

2010-01-08 by neal_koumjian

I joined this group in 2003 when I purchased my VFX-sd.
It had the board fix, because it's never wanked on me.
Hey, I think the VFX-SD is great. When I got mine, I needed a manual,
the sequncer OS, and Sam at Syntaur and Hans were very heplful.
I think it's still a great sound design tool, forget what year it was made. Look at Joe Zuwinul, R.I.P, who had a Korg M1 and Prophet 5 in his rig at the end.
Bloody great synth, creative tool.
Remember, it is't the gear, it's the gear-head!

Hey guys,

I bought my SD-1 32 in the summer of '92. I had owned a VFX-SD (V2 I think) and I loved it!! I could not agree with Richard more...these things are the best hardware based workstations ever!! I have yet to replace the original battery-- it still lives (WOW), lol. I hope it isn't leaking. I will check soon. I also have a TS12 (MINT) and a ZR76 (MINT) and even owning these I still use my SD-1. My first CD (to be released in just a few more weeks) features a lot of stuff from the SD-1...you old-timers will recognize it for sure.

Anyway, SVbeats, don't let Dwayne duh Dwog Twurd misguide you. He is a dismal malcontent and a foolish child of a man that would rather "throwed it away" than have it fixed. Enjoy your VFX-SD and if or when you run into twouble like Dwayne dwid just get in touch with Route 66. Also, do not neglect to look at group archives for answers to your questions.

Richard, I still owe you a couple songs from my CD....I haven't forgotten. My old computer puked and I....and I am making excuses...lol. I have been busy and that is true. After Monday I will email your other addy as you directed.

You guys/gals all take care and have a gr8 weekend.

Kind regards,
David

p.s. Dwayne, gwoh up and get off dis gwoup! You gwouchy twurd!

Thanks Guys for all the responses I'm definitly won't give up on it. Most of the gear I use is kind of vintage (MPC60, ESQ-M, etc...) so Ive grown used to using a soldering iron. So I should be cool in that respect. Once I open it up maybe Ill even be surprised that the solder is already done, although I'm not betting on it. haha

Only reason I asked this question is because I used to have an SQ80 (needed to sell for $$ reasons). Then found this deal and couldn't pass it up. Once I heard some of the pad/string sounds, it brought me back to the SQ80/ESQ a bit. I enjoy that Ensoniq sound. Sucks that everywere you read though, the VFX's get a bad rap. I mean damn, even Ensoniq decided to change the branding when they released the sd-1. Seems like a nice active community though here, very nice.

And to Dwayne, were do you live? Maybe I can grab your VFX out of your trash can :)

Still have my VFXsd and SD-1/32. I'll keep them till they don't work anymore and I can't get them fixed.

I feel the same way, I do have a newer Emu E4 workstation but I don't use it much. So if anyone wants to share VFXSD/SD1 32 songs/sequences I am setting up a folder in the files section.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
