...SysEx implementation chart?

...SysEx implementation chart?

2010-02-16 by somethingkillingyou

hi guys,

I bought myself a midi controller and I'd like to edit patches in my SD1-32 with it... VFXs interface may not be the worst in the world, but I just don't feel confortable with sub-menus and only a data entry slider...

problem is: the manual I got with my SD has not a sysex chart!
I did read something like 'if you want the full midi implementation send us a letter (etc.)' in one of the last pages, and this is not helpful at all!

does anyone have a document with the sysex chart?

then, if it had sysex command strings in hex for all the parameters, that would be REALLY appreciated and helpful!

I know someone ou there is using a midi controller with the VFX/SD, so it would be awesome to have a document that could save a lot of time and frustration when programming a midi controller for the VFX/SD...

greetings

Fabio

The VFX SD Musicians Manual Version 1.4 has an Appendix A with the VFX SD Midi Implementation Specification Version 2.00. This should be what you're looking for. I used this (and Gary Gieblers
VFX file specs) to program my VFX tools. Most of the relevant parameters are likely to be
valid for the SD-32, too.

You may already have this, but here's the Manual: http://www.soundprogramming.net/manuals/Ensoniq_VFX-SD_Manual.pdf

with "Gary Gieblers VFX file specs" do you mean this:
http://www.deepsonic.ch/deep/manuals/ensoniq_floppy_diskette_formats.pdf
??

On a side note, that article about the disk formats mentions, at the end, a follow-up article that would describe the format used by the VFX-SD's sequencer. Does anyone here have that article or know where I could find it?

Best wishes,

@ k5kip_1999

hi, I saw you made a VFX adaptation for the behringer bcr2000...
could you please upload a document with the sysex command strings so that one can use any midi controller with the VFX/SD?

best regards,

Fabio

Yes. I want this badly. Need to convert my sequence files from VFX sysex to SMFs for security. I know it was published in the Transoniq Hacker but I've lost my copies ...

I think you could simply record vfx-sd's midi output in your favourite sequencer and save it as a standard midi files...

the same goes with sysex command strings for programming...
as long as the VFX sends out sysex messages when you edit parameters, with MidiOx one can obtain the data to control it... of course it is time-consuming and it's still a shame that those who already did the work didn't share that material here or somewhere...
