How difficult is it to install the SQX chip?

How difficult is it to install the SQX chip?

2010-06-04 by franzschiller@rocketmail.com

Hi everyone.

Long time lurker here. I had a vanilla VFX, and loved programming it so much, that I sold it for a better-condition VFX-SD. To my surprise and delight, I have absolutely fallen in love with the sequencer.

Anyways, I am not handy at all. I don't even know how to solder, but I can unscrew cases and plug things in. I was wondering if a solder-challenged dunderhead like me would be able to install the SQX-70 sequencer expander thing in the VFX-SD. How difficult is it really?

Thanks,
-Franz

I just ordered a set to do this to my SD-1.

According to the documenation, (available on the yahoo! site under files/service and repair information,) it's very easy.

Identify the old RAM chips on the board. They are located next to the ROMs, which are labeled.

Remove the old chips, and replace them with the new chips. Make sure that you orient the chips in the same direction; There's usually a notch at one end.

Reinitialize the VFX and test.

Awesome. Then it seems difficult for me to screw it too bad.

It's done...I just bought the SQX 70 expander off the `bay.

Thanks everyone for the info!
