SD-1 EPROM Upgrade Questions

SD-1 EPROM Upgrade Questions

2011-04-26 by jondl_2000

I've recently attempted the OS 4.1 EPROM upgrade to my SD-1 having purchased the chips and sequencer diskette from Rt 66 Studio.

The upgrade was unsuccessful and the SD-1 would only boot to a partially illuminated display that would slowly fade to dark...

I attempted to fallback to the previously installed EPROMs only to have the same issue following power on.

Having searched this lists archives, I found this thread from sometime ago:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ensoniq-VFX-SD/message/2581

Since the description appeared to match the issue I'd encountered, I replaced both 2 Amp fuses (I have replacement 1.5 Amp fuses on order) and was able to restore the SD-1 using the previous EPROMs, but not the new EPROMs.

I've double checked the provided installation instructions and feel certain I have the EPROMs installed correctly. I've posted a question to Route 66 Studios, but expect it may be some days before I receive a reply. When I have the new EPROMs installed and power on the unit - all I have is a dark display with no prompt to reinitialize the unit.

Does anybody have suggestions as to what else I might try to affect a successful upgrade?

I'm hesitant to make further attempts without a plan of action as I'm concerned the pins on either set of EPROM's will wear unnecessarily from too many installations and removals.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you may have to offer.

Regards,

Jon

Jon
That does not sound like an EPROM issue but a bad display or diode on the PS, could be a bad set of EPROM's.
I can always supply you with a second set of EPROM's but I have not received any such Email from you as you have stated here.

Richard,

Thanks for the follow-up.

I sent the email to the aol address listed on the installation instructions, not the route66studios emial address - my bad.

I've resent the email along with a related email on another matter regarding the order.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Jon

Oh man LOL I better change that! that AOHELL address is like 8 years old, that's my fault! Send your address to the Route 66 Email and I will send another EPROM set. I havent ever had a bad VFX series EPROM set but not out of the question.
