loading stored sequence syx back to sd-1

loading stored sequence syx back to sd-1

2011-05-09 by Michael

I have tried sending sequence syx data dump from my computer back to the sd-1, but it doesn't do anything, even though it is completely received. I've also sent it to the SD-1, then copied it to a diskette, then try to reload it into the SD-1. Nothing changes with the sequences. Is there any way to get the sequencer syx data back into sequences on the SD-1?.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi,
from memory (no pun intended) when I used to use sys-ex dumps from my
Atari ST (remember those days?), I had to set the data transfer rate on
the librarian app on the Atari to S-L-O-W. I seem to remember that the
Ensoniq's had a buffer issue, in that they were very very small and
easily overloaded. Hopefully the app you're using has a data rate option.

- This is assuming that all else is set properly, such as having turned
sys-ex ON on the SD-1, and set correct midi channels (etc).

Hope that helps.

Hello Michael:

As far as I know, the sysex files stored in SD-1 or VFX-SD diskettes cannot
be directly loaded into the synth, they just use the diskette as a media
backup.

Just some suggestions to solve your problem:

- check that you have set "SYS-EX=ON" in the second page of MIDI menu

- is it possible that the sys-ex files you are trying to load are not really
sequences? Maybe they are programs or presets and then you cannot see
anything loaded in sequencer area. Check with MIDIOX or other program the
content of one of your files (look for note on/off, clock timing events,
etc)

- to double check it, create a short sequence, save it to the computer as a
sysex file, and try to load it back

- a basic check: be sure that the sequences have not been loaded correctly,
but in the last banks of the sequencer ! It happened to me one time until I
realized that It is possible to save the first or the last 30 banks. I did
not take the time to check the contents of last banks, and they had really
been loaded !

If nothing works, you can send me one of your problematic sysex files and I
will try it in my VFX-SDII (I imagine that sysex from SD-1 can also be
loaded into it)

Cheers,

Alfons
