VFX to SD-1

VFX to SD-1

2012-08-17 by lb_mfx

Hi!

I recall reading somewhere that it should be possible to convert a VFX to SD-1. Does anyone know if this is actually true and if so, what does the conversion process entail?

Regards,
.Arto.

I have a VFX-SD which when it boots up tells me its an SD-1 and on further investigation it appears a conversion is possible but i know nothing of the details.

I believe it's essentially a mainboard swap - in particular, new / more waveform ROMs.

Hi
I used to own 3 but now have only 2 of the conversions (that's another story). I used to work in a music store when these conversions were taking place. Knew the sales rep and it's too bad this company couldn't make it. Ensoniq would do the retrofit for a nominal price to actually keep customers happy instead of forcing them to buy the newest version. I believe they were doing this for about a year since the SD1-32 was so popular. There is a visible difference where the modification was made on the motherboard. The only problem is that the revision seems to get a lot hotter than any other version. If you have one that boots 32 voice enabled then yuup you got one. I would highly recommend getting Rout66's fan kit if they still make it. Hope that helps and I'm moving to Hawaii soon and they might be for sale.
