Ensoniq VFX Piano Sound

Ensoniq VFX Piano Sound

2014-02-03 by musicwithharry

Has anyone created or know of a good piano sound for the original vanilla VFX? I know I am asking a lot, especially with all of the newer stuff out there. I am kind of kidding myself too maybe, as I already have iGrand for my iPhone and it has great pianos on it.

Did anyone ever come up with a really good piano sound for the VFX synths other than what may be in the sound libraries? Do you have it written out where I could copy it down?

I really like the In Concert piano patch but the piano is very dull and I've tried to brighten it up but it just sounds more fake as I increase the cutoff filter.

It would be neat to have something onboard that is pretty good and go from there.

There were a few patches that attempted to improve upon the built in piano. You've probably seen them all in the libraries. None ever satisfied me. This is where you turn to an external module. Can you send midi into the iPhone for your piano app and play it from the VFX keyboard? (I've used the camera connection kit and a USB midi interface to play Arturia's iMini - minimoog emulator - on an iPad, so it's not as far-fetched as it might sound.)

I think we missed the point :) I have used the iGrand from the iPhone on many occasions and it does indeed sound great. My only concern is that it is not in a rack form and so with all of the extra cables and the fact that it is on my phone, it makes for inconvenient usage when playing live.

That is why I posted my initial query about a good piano sound for the VFX. I wish that I had the version with the Mega-Piano waves because that would likely be good enough for live use when layering.

If course, that is all negated now because I don't use the VFX for much live use anymore. I picked up a vanilla VFX, but in attempting the hardwire, broke it :) I still have my VFX-Sd but that was for studio use only.

My best friend's brother is an engineer and is looking at the PCBs for the VFX to see what he can do to fix it. If it cannot be fixed then I think that we may attempt to make that VFX a rack mount unit. I am not losing much sleep over this one not being used because of the VFX-SD as well as all of my SQ racks and my SQ2/32, which all work perfectly.

In fact, my live rig right now consists of a Korg M50, Roland M-SE1, Roland JV-880, Yamahha TX1P and Ensoniq SQ-R. Tha piano on the M50 is sufficient to use live so I do not have to use the iGrand live.
