Re: Ensoniq VFX-SD issues

my friend chris,
the power supply in the VFX-SD/SD-1 has always been problematic---->just try plugging your board w/o a line conditioner: you'll get the famous blinking display. the memory battery uses the same ground as power supply. my suggestion was to first fix your low battery problem, then work on the outputs. I had the exact similar problem [keyboard wouldn't work and internal rom wouldn't come up] which rectified itself with a battery replacement. go figure. As to your output problem; check all jacks and make sure your plugs have a snug fit---->a simple "bend-back" will fix this. kiss it? lighten up, mi amigo, we're all friends here....

Chris,

First, ya shoulda bought mine when you had the chance!

Anyway, yeah, it's likely something on the main board. Are you getting any
kind of error messages (other then the low battery) when you power up?
Check the cables running from the top panel and back panel to the main board
for loose connectors, and make sure that any chips in sockets are properly
seated. And, replace the battery. I know this shouldn't have an effect,
but it is a microprocessor-based system. Too low a battery voltage may have
it confused.

Hope this helps!

Re: Ensoniq VFX-SD issues

2002-08-08 by mzape

no harm, no foul.....
additional battery info:
the memory battery is designed to last 5 years, although in many
cases the life of the battery can go as much as 9-10 years [mine
lasted 8 before I replaced it]. make any back-ups before you change
the battery! if you're looking for the original stock patches check
out: www.synthzone.com and click on the Ensoniq links. If there's
enough interest, i'll post these patches here in the "file" section.
