Detuning

Detuning

2002-09-08 by Mikael Berglund

My VFX has started to detune itself. No MIDI-connections or anything i
can think of that could work as a source for the detuning. Sometimes its
small amounts and sometimes up to a full semitone. Very puzzling. A
quick powercycling usually have no effect but an extended wait before
turning it on seems to have some effect. Could it be a heatproblem?
Fixable or is it a trip to the repairman?

I vaguely remember detuning happening with my SD1 many years ago. I remember
getting the problem solved without sending the keyboard for repair. I don't
remember what the tech told me. I do remember one of the guys at Malvern
(former Ensoniq headquarters) telling me something about a calibration
problem. Can't remember now if that was related, but I probably solved the
problem by doing a complete reinitialization.

If you have your original disk to reload your sequencer, save all your
sounds, presets, sequences and system setup and do a hard reinitializing.
Reload your sequencer software, system setup, sounds (programs) and presets,
etc. and see if that helps. Warmly yours, Frank Fortunato

I'll sure try this out. Fortunately, i haven't made any patches yet so
it's a simple operation.

I think the battery needs to be replaced too. Have a recollection of it
giving me a low battery-message when starting up a while ago.

Thanx for the advice.
