There are thousands of free midi files out there.
You can also buy DVDs full of them on ebay.
I have perhaps 50,000 sequences from various sources.

I may have saved some of the ones I used to use on SD floppy.

----------------------------------------------------------------

However since the SD floppy format is not PC compatible you will either need to get software (and a vintage Windows machine) to convert the midi files to ensoniq compatible files and write them to floppy.

OR

The way I did things was to use an old Mac running OS9 or 8.6, put the SD on multi-mode, set the sync to external and played the sequence into the SD using Midigraphy
Then I picked the correct instruments for the different midi channels.

You also need the GM compatible drum kits as the Ensoniq drum map is not GM compatible .

I think midi files are probably easier to edit once they are on the SD as multi-track sequences.
As far as software to preview midi files it depends on your platform, but Qmidi is still out there and QuickTime Player will play most midi files.
You can also dump standard midi files directly into Garage Band to listen to them.
If you want to get higher tech then MOTU's Digital Performer would be an option.
As I said, my approach (which was the cheapest for me as a Mac user) was to set up the SD as a multi-timbral recorder and play the sequence into the SD via an M-Audio midi interface using Midigraphy.
Something like a 1998-2000 G3 Powerbook worked fine for that use.

I bought an SD from Guitar Center in 2012 (with warranty) after having owned two in the 90's intending to put it to good use, but it had some issues and rather have it repaired Guitar Center just gave me my money back.
I still have a 4.10 System disk as well as 3 disks with most of the sequences I used professionally. Mostly classic rock... Brown-Eyed Girl, Taking Care of Business...
You're welcome to them. I also have 100+ blank floppies. Mostly IBM with some TDKs.

As far as midi files - if you give me some artists name or tunes I can pull a folder together and either email it to you or stick it on box .com.
Or I can burn a DVD and mail my entire archive to you.

If you could make disk images of those disks with the sequences and upload them to the files section, that would be very kind!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
