History of VFX & HD3.5"

History of VFX & HD3.5"

2000-10-15 by gohja@c2i.net

Hi there,
first, I understand that I joined this group as a member #45, today ..

My questions:
1. Where can I find historic information about the VFX? What happened
when? What was the first VFX (with/without sequencer?), the OS
versions, when did it change to SD, and to SD1, and so on?

2. What might be the problem using new HD 3,5" (1,44) and not the DD?
I have just formatted a lot of HDs, and they are all OK.

I have more questions (MIDI, errors ..), but I will bring them in
later.

Thank you,

There are a great many 'Vintage Synth' sites, where you can find all
this history, start with sites like www.synthzone.com,
www.vintagesynth.com, wwww.sonicstate.com, www.vse.com etc etc

There's no problem as far as the VFX is concerned, the problem comes
if you try to put them in a PC to use a VFX<->PC tool, unless you
cover the 'HD' ID hole, the PC will think its a 1.44MB disk, and get
confused...

Also, once a disk is written in one density, it often won't work if
its formatted to another, so if you take a VFX formatted disk, and
try to format it as 1.44MB there is a chance of lots of errors...

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
