I tried, but couldn't find how gmail would force one to scroll down all  
the way?

You shouldn't see it, but all my mail is routed through gmail too to make  
use of the spam filter and as a backup storage. But i use Opera M2 to read  
it, usually, because the web interface is rather cumbersome.
