Homebrew PCBs

Recently I read where they are printing pcbs on paper and other very 
thin materials. The hype was extreme flexibility and a extremely high  
number of layers with minimum thickness. Does anybody now what they are 
using for the traces?  copper? carbon? or? How do they connect the 
componets? If this is not too hard perhaps our inkjets could do the 
same?
