Please write me off list with problems such as this. It should not surprise you to know that I have not memorized everyone on the list. I can't tell you what to say in the "tell the moderator about yourself and why you want to join" or I'll just start seeing spammers pasting whatever I suggest. But it is fairly simple. I get them filled in with "interesting", "nice list", "I want to join", that sort of thing. Just the sorts of things spammers fill in. How can I tell the difference? Do I have time to check everyone against the list of subscribers here? No, I don't. I don't get paid for this. I don't think it is too much to expect of someone joining to think of something simple to let me know there is a real person who knows what the list is about, or where they heard about the list, to distinguish themselves from the generic message a spammer will fill in that doesn't know nor care what the list is about. Often Ham operators simply type in their callsign, and I try to recognize Ham calls, but you must admit it can be difficult to tell between a callsign and a short string of random numbers and letters, which is what spammers sometimes fill in because they think anything typed in the box will do. That list does send out a couple of automessages. I don't want people to email me with who they are, I want them to go and change their request to subscribe. I read my email by date, so I'll come across the message from yahoogroups and will have already taken action based on what is in your request to subscribe before I see your email. I am owner or moderator of 20 groups. I have a very busy life. I try to do this as smoothly and efficiently as possible. 99.9% have no problems.
