Verifying a laser printer for toner transfer

2013-06-04 by leeleduc

There has been a lot of talk about which printers work for making PCB's. The database on this group is a start but most of the printers listed are no longer available.

Here's a technique I use to see if a printer will work for toner transfer.

I go to a store and ask if I can print a demo page from a printer. Most printers have a demo mode.

I bring my own paper for this. I use Staples # 633215 because I use it for toner transfers. Most glossy papers seem to work for this test.

I take this printout and try a transfer with it. I use a GBC laminator to make my transfers. I have NOT modified it for high temperature.

I tried this with a Brother HL-2240 and posted the results in the photos section under "Brother HL-2240 experiment". This printer works for me.

Hopefully, this will save you from wasting your money on a printer that won't work for you.
