Re: [Homebrew_PCBs] Brother 420 Laser printer

2017-03-15 by Doug Holberg

I have a Brother MFC 7860DW which I use for hot toner transfer. It works pretty well. My HP LJ1102w does a poor job. Never have determined if it was the aftermarket toner or the HP itself but since the Brother works fine, I have never investigated.

There are two popular methods for making PCBs with toner transfer. Hot and Cold. The cold method involves using a solvent mixture(acetone and alcohol for one ) to soften the toner image and make it adhere to the PCB. The other method uses heat (a laminator or hot iron) to transfer the toner image to the PCB. It seems that the Brother toner formulations require a much higher temperature than ,for example Hewlett Packard printers, for successful transfer of the image using heat. Just try some experimentation.Mike N. From: Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com]

Subject: [Homebrew_PCBs] Brother 420 Laser printer I have a Brother 420 mono laser printer that is not being used. How could I mod or use it for home PCB making? Is anyone aware of specific mods or uses for this printer?
