If your gonna use a heat gun to do repair, you have to figure out a way to pre-heat the board prior to applying heat to remove the chip. At that point, you heat both sides simultaneously (Bottom of the board gets lower heat than the top of the board). This is how all of the hot air machines from Hart, Pace and others work. If you don't do it like this, layers in multilayer boards can and will seperate. If that happens, salvaging the board is next to impossible.
