adapter boards, breadboards, SMD pads?

adapter boards, breadboards, SMD pads?

2006-04-28 by Marvin Moss

I want to breadboard some SMD 6-pin IC's with 0.95mm pin spacing.
Ideally, I want to solder these on a postage stamp size PCB
that has decent size pads that I can solder normal discrete
components (like 1/4 watt resistors).
I do not desire to spend $5 (or even a couple of dollars) each on these
boards.
Is there a low cost supplier of different size (for 6-pin, 8-pin, 16-pin,
etc.)
SMD adapter boards?
Suggestions (like suppliers, websites, etc) will be appreciated.

TIA,
Marvin

make them yourself!
single sided, no holes. Easy and fun...
1/4w resistors can be easily surface mounted if cut and bent appropriately,
even DIPs ! just design the outlines properly.
now, if you want solder masks or other fancy stuff, the buy them and pay...

Have you considered just buying DIP equivalents for breadboarding and
testing? Could be cheaper and less hassle if they exist.

Ah those key words. Unfortunately, many new parts are becoming only available
in surface mount packages.

Free-Air wire them to dip sockets if its for protos.

I just put a photo up in

Files/Surface_Mount/Free-Air.jpg

showing it being done to adapt a SO8 to a DIP8 package.

I realise 0.95mm spacing is a tad smaller - but should be quite
achieveable with some kynar wirewrap wire.

It's not mechanically strong enough to go out into the real
world. But should survive prototype stage no problems.
