MICR toner?

MICR toner?

2009-03-14 by Mike Young

So, I carelessly placed an order for a toner cartridge. It wasn't until
after completing the order that it finally dawned that "MICR" wasn't a
random acronym. It stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition, the funny
characters printed at the bottoms of bank checks. Apparently, I'll shortly
be able to print my own check stock.

Does anyone know what benefit MICR toner might have for toner transfer use
in making circuit boards?

MICR toner has a minimum amount of magnetic material in with the toner so that the printed text can be sensed with a magnetic pickup.

That magnetic material can be any one of several ferris metals, so I could guess that it will make the toner more likly to etch away when you want it to stay and the exposed board to etch away.

I would be very interested to hear your results.
