Positive resist

2003-07-05 by jackafaz

Hi,

Would someone please let me know where I can purchase Positive
Photo Resist in a spray can, mail order, in the US? I have done a
bunch of searches and have had no luck. I have seen others ask this
same question but have yet to see an answer. Your information would
sure be appreciated. Thanks - Jack

I recently asked this as well. From the archives, the only place I could find
in the US is www.thinktink.com for a dry-film laminated method. I'm still
also looking for a spray-can source in the US.

Cheers,
-Neil.

The only one that makes it that I know of is GC Electronics.

Cat.# 22-0074-0000

Now I am not sure about a stocking dist., so far the ones I looked
up don't seem to stock this product.

I used it 11 or so years ago found it more trouble than it was worth
to use.

I use MG Chemicals presensitized boards 600 series, have very good
results using them. GC Electronics also makes some also.

For the MG Chemicals I buy them thru Circuits Specialist, Inc.
www.web-tronics.com Circuit Specialist also has some pos.
presensitized boards slightly lower price than the MG Chemicals but
I have not tried them. You can also get most everything you need in
supplies at Circuit Specialists.

The spray you need is named POSITIVE 20 made by KONTAKT CHEMIE has Art.
No. 20.820.6.04.25.02
I got my last can from the UK, but can't find the source right now.
I used Circuit Specialists for a while until they jacked up the price
too much, then I found

http://www.oselectronics.com/ose_p78.htm

6" X 9" double side board for $9.90

About the Positive 20:
I used it for many years, the trick is to clean the PCB ONLY with Ajax
powder and water. Make a small paper towel pad, wet it and the board
then apply Ajax powder and rub in small circles. DO NOT use wire wool.
The reason: Ajax powder makes the surface much smoother and when you
spray the Positive 20 on it, the surface tension is far lower and it
allows the Positive 20 to spreads in an even film. ( no need to spin it
and all that other crap... )
If you use wire wool the Positive 20 will bead and not spread, and after
using wire wool there is NO hope of getting Positive 20 to spread evenly
unless you spin it... and that's a big mess.
Dry it in a dust free environment, you can also speed up drying by
placing in a warm oven.
Positive 20 exposes fine with a Garden Grow Lamp, and develops very well
using household Lye ( I use Red Devil Lye)

Good luck...
hansw
PS may be some one form UK knows where it can be purchased.

www.schuricht.de or www.distrelec.com do have this product. No idea
though if they deliver to the US. Worth a try though since they also
have an online shop.

I haven't followed the thread, but I wonder why one want's to use this
spray. I use either pre coated material or then dry film resist, but
anyways....

Re: Positive resist

Are you really sure you want to use the spray on stuff? Here's the
acute and chronic effects section of its MSDS

ACUTE EFFECTS: Eye and skin contact can cause irritation, itching,
redness, tearing, burning and inflammation. Inhalation, ingestion
and skin absorption can cause headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness,
weakness, drowsiness, narcosis and exhaustion. Ingestion of large
quantities can cause kidney and liver damage.

CHRONIC EFFECTS: Prolonged, repeated contact with skin can cause
absorption of harmful amounts of material. Prolonged, repeated
exposure can cause chronic effects with symptoms as described above
and other effects including anemia, hematological effects, damage to
bone marrow, kidney' liver and testes.

NOTE: When laboratory animals have been exposed to 2-ethoxyethyl
acetate birth defects and adverse effects on pregnancy have been
observed.

No mystery why its not very common.

I've used it occasionally, and haven't noticed anything untoward. The
current stuff from Electrolube doesn't work very well, though. They changed
suppliers, the old stuff was much better.
