UV plotting

High Power UV LED with Narrow Directivity, offered by Maplin, UK
(www.maplin.co.uk) order code N76AJ, price GBP49.99.
	DC: 3.5volts/15mA
	10ms pulse: 30mA
	power disipation:60mW
	optical power output:750W @ If=10mA
	peak wavelength:375nm
	spectrum half width:12nm
	metal can ( 5.4 mm diameter x 6.2 mm length) with quartz window
no more optical details, but one can try to find the manufacturer's site.
	manufacturer:NICHIA

Also 1000W wide directivity.

Any idea about a UV (quartz) colimating lens?

Planning on a perpetual motion machine;)

At that power, you just need to mask the excess light. You probably 
won't need a lens.
Even with less power, it is pretty actinic wavelength. Try and see 
what plotting speeds you can get with the normal output.

I'm not sure about the true output.
I've just copied the Maplin's catalogue.

I'm trying to get one, but will take 2-3 weeks for it to reach Romania from
UK.

A UV LED will take you weeks to UV plot a board.

See if you can buy a small powerful mercury vapor HID lamp (i.e. 
the kind of thing that needs lots of cooling or it will explode) 
, and make a light pen. Exposure time should be under 1 second 
if you want the pen velocity to be a reasonable rate.

It does sound nice to cut out the photomask step and directly 
expose the resist, but unfortunatly the UV energies required for 
standard resists make it impracticle to do. Do a search for 
"direct laser imaging", or LDI.

Nichia also has a UV laser diode - 2 mW output at 375 nm.
