GBC Laminator fot $30 at Office Max

GBC Laminator fot $30 at Office Max

2004-12-05 by mycroft2152

This weeks Office Max flyer has a 9" GBC laminator for $30. This may
not be the 200 model that we've discussed. But this is a GBC and not
one of the clones. So it may just work.

I'm pretty sure it will work just fine. Hopefully the modification
instructions are close enough. Probably are but you never know. If
you buy it and try to mod it, please take some pictures.

On the subject of clones - I dont think anyone has copied the gbc.
The only real advantage of GBC is that some one has opened it up and
figured out how to increase the distance between the lamination
rollers, thus accomodating thicker media. Its a bit hit or miss for
others. As long as they are hot laminators (vs cold), there is
probably a way to make them work. I've been keeping my eye out for
laminators at the thrift stores in my area but have yet to see
anything.

Just purchased one of these, works like a champ, at least on the 2"
by 1" board I tested. I gave it about 10 passes after letting the
unit warm up. Can't go wrong for $30. I used a 1/32 board and did
not open the case to see if it can be modified for 1/16 board.

The item number is 2081-7788. the description is GBC 9" Creative
Laminator. I do not know if this sale is in effect everywhere but my
local office max had them in stock. Go to officemax.com and click on
the link for this weeks add (the larger one), the laminator is on the
second to last page (Page 11).

Thanks for the additional information. I have obtained a Laminator but
it will have to remain a xmas gift from myself as my present work load
won't let me open it and use it until xmas.

Enjoy the holidays,
john g

THRIFT Stores ?

Tell them you are looking for such a unit. The ones in my area toss
what they think will not sell, but will hold on to odd stuff if you
let them know.

I don't think I need to tell them as I just found a small unit (4"
wide) for $6. Kind of pricey for thrift store stuff but I bought it
anyway. It will have to wait for a few days, though.

I dont think they toss anything, by the way. Given the trash they
have for sale.
