Hi, I have a 7475A plotter and was wondering if anyone has tried doing artwork directly onto a copper-clad board with one of these. Regards, Terry

yes they work fairly well for pcb track plots the only real problem is the pen down speed ,the solenoid can slam the pens into the board pretty hard and blunt the tips there should be some links with more detailed info in the bookmarks section for the group on yahoo Brian

Don't forget to check the archives and the bookmarks pages. I've gone to a lot of trouble to set up links, please use them. There are links there specifically on this subject, and we've discussed this before. Feel free to ask questions! But do check the bookmarks and archives. Hi, I have checked the bookmarks and links along with http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~wwl/pcbs.html I found them so useful I have no further questions to ask on this subject. Thanks for your help. Really? There is pretty much zero information on that website on using pen plotters for direct application of resist to PCBs. His info on plotters is about using them to make a photo pattern, not directly plotted onto a PCB. Hi, This is very true but I found all that I needed to know about plotters in the bookmarks, as stated below. Regards, Terry | Really? I have most of the HP Graphics Language on my website www.tech-diy.com If you are using a program like Ultiboard, note that the command "AA" Arc Absolute which is used to create circles, should be modified. Ultiboard specified a 1 degree arc which takes forever to print. You can modify the output by downloading the program output as a text file into Notepad or MSWord (if using the latter, remember to save only as a *.txt file). Do a REPLACE, searching for ==> ,1; and replace with ==> ,15; . This specifies a 15 degree chord (you can use 30, 45, 90 whatever, but 90 will give you a square, not a circle!) Other stuff going up on the website (slowly) -- the manual for the HP3581 Selective Level Meter -- manual for various GenRad stuff.

Hi, I'm wanting to try and use my HP 7475A plotter to make circuit boards. It has done nothing for many years and I can't find the book that came with it. While cleaning I may have altered the DIP switches on the back for the serial port setting. Can someone post the settings I need to run under WIN98 on COM2. Regards, Terry

Isn't it printed on the back? The Com port is decided on your computer. You'll need to make a special serial cable for it unless you still have the one that you used with it before, don't use a regular serial cable. The details of the serial port settings on the HP 7475a, how to build the correct serial cable, and setting it up in Windows here on the HP site: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/plotters/support_doc/bpp01379.html The description of setup for W95 should work for anything from W95 on up.
