Bought for £300 yesterday, will arrive in a couple of weeks just to visit a tech's for battery change and switch contact fixing. I read somewhere the switch contacts is a weak point. Is it an easy fix? Also, did anyone ever attempt a midi retrofit for the 210? Cheers!

excellent congrats on your new sx210!!You paid a good fair price!.Im fairly new to my sx210 as well but I have had my sx240 for quite sometime now.The contacts can cause a problem and it could be from two different reasons. There could be gunk in there that just needs to be cleaned or it could actualy be the the contact under what the actualy switchs rest on.Not a bad fix especialy if your taking it to a tech. The battery change is what is most imporant as you probily already know.I have not had much exp fixing synths till well after I got my sx240 witch i got in good working order.I a ran into a poly 6 that was nicad mess city.Based on what i leanred form reading I cleaned and fixed my poly 6 .even switched out a few chips(that i blew myself fixing). Then i got a sx210 and it had a leaky nicad. With the sucess I had from the poly 6(it took me 6 months to fix)I decided I could fix and modify my sx210 to take a ion based on the mod that travis"boardjunkie" did to my sx240 before I bought it from him.It took about a month but I got the nicad out and the ion in.No porblems.thanks travis if you see this you got me into diy synth working slowly with a electronics freind guiding my work.Im slowly working on a cz1000 now.But yea just have your tech get that battery out and you should have no problem. As for a midi retro fit for the sx210 no not as of yet or possibly ever.Good luck and have fun with your new great synth!

Thanks. So no other way to control it except playing? No mod for Gate control, at least? Cheers --- In kawai-teisco@yahoogroups.com, "S" <we_are_computron@...> wrote:

You could customize the universal MIDI retrofit kit from Highly Liquid: http://highlyliquid.com/kits/umr/ Read this page for the customization details: http://highlyliquid.com/support/library/scanned-matrix-keyboards/ I also designed a universal MIDI interface (for my Korg Poly61) but I have to say that my version is too expensive As I used analog switch matrix circuits that cost a lot. Also the PCB size is much bigger (Eurocard 160x100mm without the MIDI I/O interface that is another small PCB). Ciao Peter http://come.to/synpro (My webpage) http://go.to/datadial (Synthesizer Addon)

Would this customization typically be easy for a qualified tech? Or is it cumbersome and time consuming? Cheers --- In kawai-teisco@yahoogroups.com, Ullrich Peter <peter.ullrich@...> wrote:

Hi!
A qualified tech that can read the SX210 schematics to identify the matrix connections and that has an oscilloscope
can do the job in 1 or 2 hours, when no big problems come up.
In case of problems you can sit around and waste hours for it... but the oscilloscope helps to find the error.
Ciao

Hi Reid!
You are welcome!
Maybe you can give us a feedback if you or a tech installs this interface.
It would be nice to know the detailed settings of the DIP switches for the SX210.
Also a feedback to Highly Liquid would be useful so that they can publish the results on their webpage...
Ciao
Peter

That Universal MIDI Retrofit looks very nifty to me! Now, does anyone know if someone's come up with anything to control the rest of the synth, besides just keystrokes? At a minimum, pb, portamento & filter freq would be nice. If not, how about at least something to select voices. Another UMR might serve in that capacity, eh?
