Just joined the group, some observations L5.5/OS9 c.f. L7/OSX

Hello, all.

Just got my invitation. Great idea. Look forward to good discussions.

I just took the plunge and upgraded to L7

G4 733MHz 1.2GB RAM
L5.5 on OS9 and L7 on OSX. Can't separate out the effects of the Logic version and
operating system.

Some observations with this configuration:
1. Anything involving file processing is way faster in L7/OSX. For example, cutting and
pasting in audio files is an order of magnitude faster.
2. Anything involving real time recording or playback is way more fragile in L7/OSX.
Although L5.5/OS9 would sometimes crash, you could find a way through. I find that in
L7/OSX, things are fine and then I hear a pop/click and something's gone wrong. This is
even in the simple case of one piano track and one vocal track (with some compression
and reverb perhaps, but nothing more).

I had the impression that OSX was the "bee's knees" because of the superior RAM
management c.f. OS9 assigned memory. And that is in issue with my Steinway B piano
sound that has ~1GB of memory. But that doesn't seem to be borne out so far.

I may have to do real time recording in L5.5/OS9, and then all the processing with all the
cool effects in L7/OSX?

Anyone else with experience with a "marginal" computer (although I never thought when I
bought it that 733 MHz with >1GB RAM would be considered "marginal" this soon!)?
