Instead of the sample editor use the audio window- select the stereo files you want to split from the Audio File pulldown choose "copy/convert" make sure "interleaved to split" and "add results to audio file window" are chosen in the dialogue box. This will give you split stereo files- then choose the newly created files and choose "disconnect split stereo files" from the edit pulldown you can now drag the mono files into your arrange window.

Did you know that if you click and hold on the stereo/mono button on a channel strip you can choose to play just the left or right side of a stereo track as mono. In many cases this is all you have to do if you only want one side of a stereo file.


Those are some good tips. Maybe I can use those to playback the whole mix in mono too (for preliminary mixing).

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
