I think that the song switch with plugins issue is a necessary evil if one needs to have all those samples available for playback when one's MIDI editing involves working with multiple files (copy/paste operations for the most part, I think, or just comparisons). I don't think the computational power is available at this time (for the most of us) to keep all of that data in RAM, which I think would be necessary to have seamless switching. In that sense, Logic does us a favor by clearing the RAM when switching files. Imagine the crashing othewise. That said, there is a way to speed the editing process up a bit if one can temporarily live without complete audio feedback while working with tracks in multiple songs, and that is by selectively disabling the plugin load in the Logic AU Manager (see my earlier posting on this: [Glory, Glory. Plugin Disable Now Available (with some drawbacks)] <http:// launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Logic_Cafe/message/1842>. One does not even have to disable them all to save time. For example, in a heavy orchestration, one could allow a comp or other guiding part to load that is voiced with a quick loading Logic or Garageband instrument, while temporarily disabling the forever-to- load memory hogs, such as those in the EWQLSO library. If one knows one will be spending a lot of time at this level of work, I'd say it definitely pays to work in this manner. And if one really needs to 'hear' more, but has an awful lot of music processing to do, one could always disable the fat plugins and drag their MIDI to an external device track, or to another faster loading plugin track, restoring the notes to the original re-enabled plugin track when all is ready. As has been pointed out by Paul N., this option apparently has been available since 7.0 (my mistake).
