I am thinking of this solution for my studio - instead of buying things made for audio, get those rack frames about 6 feet high that are used for computer networks and electronics gear (about $140 at Frys). They are open on the sides and back. And I was reading an article about someone recently where they were using something like this, and there is are advantages of lower cost, and also its easier to connect cables. I have some enclosed rack cases now, and I literally use a flashlight to see what is going on in them at times. I think it will be more efficient with room space too since I can mount my tabletop synths (Access Virus B for example) with rack ears - this making a compact but accessible control area.Plus Propellarheads had a very cool station made up of these kinds of racks at the NAMM show.
