Like many things in music, math and life... things start out a certain way then take a life of their own. If you look at the Arturia Moog synth there is a really crude sequencer which shows the way it was done with hardware 30+ years ago. After that sequencers would have various patterns (up, down, up and down, random, chord)... now on the Virus TI (like softsynths like Albino) you can edit the sequence's pitch, duration, and volumne.

You may resist to the law forever, but a succession is simply a row,
1 2 3, or any combination of them,
